Not a wish list. Not a sponsored round-up. These are the things that made it out of my basket and into my wardrobe — with a completely honest three-month verdict on each one.
A Truly Honest Shopping Diary
Let me tell you something about fashion roundups: most of them aren't honest. The writer recommends things they haven't
worn, things they were given, things that photograph well but feel terrible. I'm going to do this differently.
These eight pieces I actually bought with my own money, wore for at least two months, and have genuine opinions about. One of them I regret. Let me tell you which one.
1. The Linen Wide-Leg Trouser
Bought in camel. Worn approximately forty times since March. The best piece I've bought in the last two years. Versatile
in a way I genuinely didn't expect — it works with everything from silk camis to chunky knits. Still looks good. Zero
regrets.
2. The Oversized Blazer in Oat
Also excellent. Slightly oversized in the shoulder — which I was nervous about and ended up loving. Worn to work, to
dinner, thrown over jeans on weekends. The oat colour is warm enough to work with my skin tone without being too warm.
This one stays.
3. The Ballet Flat in Black
Fine. Not remarkable. Does exactly what a black ballet flat should do — goes with most things, comfortable, unobtrusive.
I keep reaching for it when I can't make a decision about shoes. That's not a compliment, exactly, but it's not a
complaint either.
4. The Silk Cami in Ivory
Love this. Worn it tucked into everything — the wide-leg trousers, jeans, a midi skirt. It has that quality where it
reads both casual and elegant depending on what you put it with. Delicate wash only. Worth it.
5. The Structured Tote in Tan
Excellent bag. The size is right — big enough for everything I actually carry, small enough that I don't pile in things I don't need. The tan works with everything in my wardrobe. I reach for it four days out of five.
6. The White Linen Shirt
Good but not perfect. The collar is slightly too stiff and doesn't drape the way I wanted. I still wear it, but I wish
I'd tried it on more carefully. Lesson: always check the collar on a linen shirt before buying.
7. The Knit Co-Ord Set
Genuinely great. The matching knit top and wide-leg knit trouser combination is one of the most comfortable things I own that also looks intentional. Worn it on planes, to low-key dinners, on Saturdays. Very good purchase.
8. The Statement Earrings (The Regret)
Large, sculptural, gold. They looked extraordinary in the shop. They are, frankly, too heavy for extended wear and the
posts are slightly uncomfortable. I've worn them twice. They sit in a little dish and look beautiful there, which is the
most expensive way to decorate a dish I've ever found.
"The best fashion purchases are the ones that make your next morning easier, not harder."
Buy the trouser. Skip the uncomfortable earrings.
